What makes a favourite brand? It clearly has to be one that reflects the kind of values and personality that appeals to you, not to mention have great designs and great value. Do Singaporeans know their local retail brands? We showed a list of 37 local retail brands to a group of Singaporeans and asked how many originated from Singapore. The answer? Only 8 out of the 37. Although respondents recognised most of the names of the brands listed, there was a resounding, “I didn’t know that”, upon finding out that they were all in fact, home-grown brands.

Today we've turned the magnifying glass on the Singapore Brand and we're trying to put our finger on what is it exactly that embodies the Singapore Brand. Is there even one in the first place? What would you associate with our local brands and what exactly do they stand for? This seems like a horribly tough nut to crack, given that most Singaporeans do not even know what our homegrown brands are.
